I found this lcd screen on geeks.com for a mere 485. So I went to ebay to see
what I could find.
For a while I have been pondering using a tablet pc to play all of my MP3s and say goodbye to CDs for the car for good. With the tablet, I wouldn't need to open up the laptop in order to navigate through paylist. Now with this touch screen I could call up crap right there on my dash.
In theory you could get by with a cheapo laptop as long as it is Win xp or 2000
I then realized that this thing likely doesn't have the sound quality of my present Sony or if it crapped out on me, I would be music-less until I could get home. I'd want to keep my present head unit out of the way while it handled the audio duties and have this thing in the stock radio location and act as an interface for my laptop.
This afternoon I noticed that part of the center stack was removeable -- you don't even need a screwdriver. Thankfully I have a spare Sony HU and I used it as a test fit. In the next wk or two I am going to try out my idea. Below are some quick pics that I took.
I know that a lot of your guys are into car stereos so if you have any comments or advice let me hear it. Using that storage bin would be a great way to have a stealth install... As long as you don't need to load CDs lol.
